When You Send a Sympathy Card

When you send a sympathy card, it’s easy to wonder what to write. Are you saying too much? Not enough?

Among the best words you can write are those found in a “comforting” Scripture verse.  Psalm 34:18, Matthew 5:4, and Romans 8:38-39 are powerful reminders of God’s gift of eternal life to all who believe in Him. Others are 2 Corinthians 5:1-4, Revelation 21:4, Isaiah 51:11, and 1 Corinthians 15:55-57.

When you’re sending a sympathy card, take a moment to write out one of these verses inside the card. You can also write something like this: “I pray the next days are a time when you feel God’s comfort in a very real and present way as you celebrate Emily’s life, her faith, and the joyous knowledge that you will one day be reunited to spend eternity together with each other and the Lord.”
